The Akamba Handcraft Industry Co-operative Society, established in 1963, is the largest wood carving cooperative in Kenya with 2,800 active members and over 7,000 non-member artisans. The co-operative is committed to preserving and promoting traditional craftsmanship, offering its members a sustainable income through their artistry.
Located in Mombasa and spanning over nine acres, the Akamba cooperative not only provides economic opportunities but also ensures the continuity of traditional crafts while incorporating modern techniques.
